Dawayland Hurst was found hiding in a home on 7th Avenue North in Texas City and was taken into custody without incident.

Court records reveal previous charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family assault, and making terroristic threats.

In 2020, Hurst’s half-brother, Diajwan Corey Triplett, was killed in Texas City, and Collins shares a child with the man, Michael King, serving time for Triplett’s murder.
It appears that Hurst exploited his connection with Collins, manipulating and abusing her emotionally and physically to revenge his half-brother’s death.

The Fatal FaceTime Call

On the morning of the murder, Michael King, who was incarcerated for Triplett’s murder, used a smuggled phone to FaceTime Collins, from prison.
Seabrook police investigators uncovered a recording of a video call that took place the day Collins was killed.
Investigators say Hurst and Collins are seen sitting on a bed with King’s child. Hurst is instructing the child to say to King, “Daddy, he mean, look what he fixin’ to do to me.” Collins is crying and says, “No, get away, baby, no get away from him. No don’t.”
Collins, visibly distressed, can be heard pleading, “No, get away, baby, no, get away from him.” Moments later, Hurst slaps the child, amplifying the trauma for both mother and child.
Deadly Text Message
In another shocking detail, Hurst sent a video message to Collins’ grandmother, explicitly threatening to kill Collins.
This disturbing communication, combined with evidence of physical abuse, adds to the mounting case against Hurst.
The Delayed Arrest
After Collins’ murder, authorities quickly issued a murder charge against Hurst.
However, it took weeks of searching before they could locate him.
