About St. Xavier High School
St. Xavier High School is a private Catholic institution located in Springfield Township, Ohio, specifically designed for boys.
Known for its rigorous academic curriculum, the school aims to foster character development and leadership skills among its male students.
The institution emphasizes a holistic education approach, preparing students not only for academic success but also for becoming responsible and ethical members of their communities.
Background: Nutley’s Role at St. Xavier High School
In the fall of 2023, Nutley joined St. Xavier High School in Springfield Township as a program supervisor for students facing academic challenges.

The program, part of the school’s multi-tiered support system, aimed to provide specialized assistance.
Unfortunately, the situation took a dark turn when Nutley allegedly used her role to initiate an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male student.
The victim was assigned to her program, creating an environment where professional lines were reportedly blurred. Nutley’s conduct, now under scrutiny, reveals a disturbing misuse of her position.
Allegations of Abuse and Inappropriate Communication
According to Powers, Nutley began contacting the student outside school hours through text messages. Communications reportedly included explicit photos and sexually charged exchanges, escalating over time.
In mid-November 2023, Nutley allegedly initiated physical encounters with the student, some of which reportedly took place on school grounds. The indictment claims that these encounters involved acts of sexual misconduct, both on and off campus.
Nutley is alleged to have performed oral sex on the male victim at least one time while on the campus of St. Xavier High School
When the student attempted to end the interactions, Nutley reportedly continued messaging him, disregarding boundaries entirely.
The School's Internal Investigation and Law Enforcement Involvement
St. Xavier administrators initiated an internal investigation after receiving concerns, leading to the involvement of Springfield Township Police.
The criminal investigation brought Nutley’s conduct to light, ultimately resulting in her indictment.
The case highlights the critical role of both educational institutions and law enforcement in protecting vulnerable students and maintaining accountability within schools.
Prosecutor Melissa Powers Speaks Out
Prosecutor Powers expressed strong condemnation of Nutley’s actions, describing the conduct as "unacceptable and reprehensible."
She emphasized that the student, instead of receiving guidance and support, fell victim to what Powers called "an adult predator."
Powers vowed that her office would pursue full justice to ensure that Nutley is held accountable for her actions.

Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers announced the indictment of Emily Nutley (DOB: 03/06/1982) for engaging in an unlawful sexual relationship with a minor child who was a student at St. Xavier High School where the defendant was employed.
Emily Nutley was indicted for six (6) counts of Sexual Battery, a felony of the third degree. If convicted of all charges she faces the possibility of up to fifteen (15) years in prison and a duty to register as a sexually oriented offender.
In the fall semester of 2023, Nutley was employed as a teacher / instructor at St. Xavier High School, a parochial school in Springfield Township.
Her role at the school was as supervisor of a program to assist students struggling with academics.
The victim (a male student, age 17 at the time of the offense) had been assigned to the program as part of the schools “multi-tiered system of support” and was working with Nutley on academic matters.
It was during this time that Nutley began to have additional contact with the victim outside of school hours. This contact, via text message, included nude photographs of Nutley and sexually explicit messages.
In mid-November of 2023, Nutley began a physical relationship with the student that included multiple encounters.
Nutley is alleged to have performed oral sex on the male victim at least one time while on the campus of St. Xavier High School and one additional time while off campus.
Nutley is also alleged to have engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim after hours while in her office at the school.
When the victim attempted to stop the encounters, Nutley continued to contact the victim via text messages.
The inappropriate conduct was brought to light after an internal investigation by St. Xavier High School administrators. Springfield Township Police were then contacted to conduct a criminal investigation that resulted in charges.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers commented, “This is absolutely unacceptable and reprehensible conduct from an adult towards a minor child. This child was in need of help and guidance but instead found an adult looking to act out her perverted sexual desires.I want to thank the Springfield Township Police and St. Xavier High School for their thorough investigation in this matter. Let me be very clear: this is child sexual abuse. This child was the victim of an adult predator who should never again have a role that puts her in contact with children. She used this child for her own sexual gratification while taking advantage of the position she held. My office will prosecute this matter fully and thoroughly to ensure that justice is served.”
